A Few of My Favourite Things: Christmas Films

Hello, my lovely Christmas Faeries!

One of my favourite things to do at this time of year is sit down with a cup of hot chocolate, cuddle my Labrador, Max, and watch a good Christmas movie.  Here are five of my absolute favourites – they never fail to get me feeling festive.

The Holiday

Romance + Christmas = Perfection.  Especially when it has a generous helping of Jude Law looking absolutely gorgeous!  This is my go-to Christmas movie, which I have been known to watch at any time during the year.  It’s a fun romantic comedy with brilliant performances from Carmen Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and, of course, Mr Law.  Plus, with a score by the one and only Hans Zimmer, I think it’s safe to say that this is my favourite Christmas movie.

The Muppet’s Christmas Carol

Is it even Christmas if you haven’t watched this film?! The story is an absolute classic, based on the Charles Dickens novel.  Add in the Muppets and their characteristic humour, Michael Caine as a terrifying Scrooge (he was terrifying when I was younger!) and a host of wonderful and memorable songs, this film really makes it feel like Christmas.

Love Actually

There’s definitely something about Christmas that brings the romantic out in me.  This is such a feel good movie, with an amazing ensemble cast.  It really converted me to the multiple story line film, and I love the way that all of the characters and their stories intertwine throughout.  Plus, it has some of the most memorable scenes including Hugh Grant dancing to the Pointer Sisters!

White Christmas

I can never let the Christmas season pass without watching this classic musical at least once.  More likely, I’ll watch it several times as my mum is a huge fan of this one too.  I love musicals, and I love Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, and I love Christmas… so I really love this movie! Plus, it has my absolute favourite Christmas song in it.  After all, isn’t everyone dreaming of a white Christmas?

The Nightmare Before Christmas

An odd choice, possibly, but this has long been one of my favourite films.  I love its quirkiness and originality.  I love the story and the songs and the animation.  I love Sally and Jack and Zero.  Its such a fun film, and ever so slightly creepy which is perfect, because everyone likes a little scare at Christmas.  Not a big one, just a little one! And that ending… simply wonderful!

So there you have it, my five favourite Christmas movies!  Have you watched any of these?  What are some of your favourites?  Let me know in the comments.
