A Few of My Favourite Things: Book to Movie Adaptations

Hello Faeries!

Long time, no blog posts =  bad Connie! I promise I’ll do better in the future!

Today I’m going to talk about some of my favourite book to movie adaptations.  Don’t get me wrong – the book is always better.  But there are some adaptations that are done really, really well and allow you to escape into the story in a whole new way.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

This will forever be my favourite adaptation.  Peter Jackson’s movies are fantastic, fromimg_0421 the casting of the characters to the detail the art teams went to for the sets and costumes.  I spent so many years wishing I could live in Middle Earth (the nice part) and these movies transport me every time I watch them.  Even just listening to the phenomenal scores by Howard Shore is enough to send me to The Shire or Rivendell.  These films may not be 100% accurate to the books, but they’re pretty darn close!

  Pride & Prejudice

There have been so many adaptations of this timeless classic, but my absolute favourite is the 2005 film with Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen – mainly because Matthew is my perfect Mr Darcy (sorry Colin)!  This adaptation is beautiful in every way, and stays fairly close to the book.  It has gorgeous sets and scenery, amazing costumes, a fabulous soundtrack… and did I mention Mr Darcy?!

The Harry Potter Series

Okay, I know they’re not exactly accurate to the books…. and that they miss out some quite important parts… but I will always have a special place in my heart for these films.  Not only did I grow up with the Harry Potter films, but I was lucky enough to grow up with Emma, Dan and Rupert as well.  For me, they’ll always be the Golden Trio.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

img_0819I may be late to the book party for this one, but you can bet I watched this adaptation as soon as it hit Netflix.  I immediately fell in love with Lara Jean and Peter K, and I’m so happy that the second book is being adapted too.  Here’s hoping for the whole trilogy!

Interview With A Vampire

Anne Rice is undeniably the queen of vampires, and this book and its adaptation proves it.  While it’s not quite as good as the book, I really love this movie.  I even love Brad Pitt and Tom cruise as vampires.  Plus – they don’t sparkle!

So there you have it – my top five (technically) favourite book to movie adaptations.  There are many others I could add to this list, but I quite like the number five!

What are some of your favourite adaptations?  Let me know in the comments.

Happy Tuesday, Faeries! x
