The I Should Have Read That Book Tag

Hello Faeries!

I was tagged (quite some time ago) to do the “I Should Have Read That” book tag.  There are so many books on my shelves that have been there for years and years, but I still haven’t read them!  It’s time for me to own up to that… but maybe I won’t mention all of them!

Rules:
Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post – I was tagged by the lovely Beth at Booksnest to do this, who also happens to have created this tag!

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet

My Answers:

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read
Being friends with fellow book lovers, you can bet I’m always being told that I should have read loads of books!  One in particular that I’m constantly being reminded by various people that I still need to read is Vicious by VE Schwab.  Honestly, I’m not sure why I haven’t read this book yet, as I loved Schwab’s Shades of Magic books, but I just haven’t got around to it yet!

A book that’s been on your TBR forever and yet you still haven’t picked it up
So. Many. Books.  I’m not lying.  I have tonnes of books that have been on my TBR list for years, and for one reason or another I just haven’t picked them up.  One that’s been on there for quite a while is Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.  I’m hoping to read it soon, but I’m not making any promises!

A book in a series you’ve started, but haven’t gotten round to finishing yet
I still haven’t read the last book in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.  I have it  I have the full series in glorious hardback.  But I haven’t read the final book… I feel like I might need to re-read the rest of the series first, and that requires time!  And there are other books to read…. You see my problem?

A classic you’ve always liked the sound of, but never actually read
Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott is a classic that I’d really love to get around to reading at some point.  It’s all about knights and maidens, and I’ll probably find quite a lot of it problematic and anti-feminist, but I’ve always wanted to read it.  Maybe one day!

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read
The Raven Boys books by Maggie Stiefvater is the first one that springs to mind.  I think I might be a little late to jump on the bandwagon for that series though, but I hear so many amazing things about it so I’m always curious.

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but you just haven’t read it yet
I’m usually pretty good at reading books before their film or tv series adaptation comes out, but I’ve never got around to reading many of Nicholas Sparks’ books, even though I usually love the movies.  I’d love to read A Walk to Remember and The Choice, as these films in particular really resonated with me.

A book you see all over Instagram but haven’t picked up yet
The Wicked King by Holly Black is absolutely my answer for this one, even though there are loads of other books on Instagram that I haven’t read yet!  I found The Cruel Prince a little problematic when I read it, so I’m not entirely sure that I’m going to enjoy The Wicked King.  But the ending of the first book left me curious, so I’ll probably read it at some point this year.

There you have it – are there any books in my answers that you still need to read as well?  Feel free to have a go at this tag yourself.  Today I’m going to tag these lovely people:

  1. I’ve also not read The Wicked King. I enjoyed the Cruel Prince but, like you, I couldn’t help feeling like the romance element was kind of…. grim? I’ll get to it eventually though, apparently it really steps up from the first!
