Novella Review: Becoming The Dark Prince

The Book: Becoming The Dark Prince (eBook, novella) by Kerri Maniscalco

The Rating: 4🌟

The Review:

“The price of love doesn’t come cheaply.  But the cost is worth it.”

SPOILER ALERT: This review will contain spoilers for Escaping From Houdini, the third book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper Series.

If the plan with this novella was to whet out appetites for Capturing the Devil, plan has definitely succeeded because I cannot wait for the final book now!!

Becoming the Dark Prince picks up the story towards the end of Escaping From Houdini. When Audrey Rose is stabbed and unconscious, the gorgeous Thomas Cresswell is by her side and with this novella, we see his thoughts throughout the final chapters of the book.

This novella is a fascinating insight into Thomas’ point of view, as well as his thoughts and emotions throughout. This was wonderful for me, as I’ve been completely in love with Thomas since book one, so seeing a bit more of the story from his perspective was brilliant. It also helped to fill in some of the blanks from the end of the third book.

Switching to Thomas’ perspective for this novella also helped to clarify a few questions I had about him towards the end of Escaping from Houdini. At the end of that book, I felt that Thomas was being quite standoffish and it frustrated me a bit. But being able to get inside his head in this novella really helped to clarify his thoughts about Audrey Rose and her relationship with Mephisto.

I really only have two negative points about this novella:

1) It’s not long enough – I could easily read a novel length book (or two or three) about Thomas.

2) I wish more of the series was written from Thomas’ point of view.

This novella was exactly what I needed to tide me over until Capturing the Devil comes out, and I hope Kerri writes more novellas in the series!
