My Favourite Things: Fictional Couples I Love

Hello Faerie Friends!

In case you didnโ€™t know, I love a good romance! It sounds silly, I know, but a well written romance in a great book always gets my vote. Today I’m going to be talking about my Top Ten favourite fictional couples!

These are couples who, in my eyes, are absolutely perfect for each other! Plus, the books they’re in are pretty darn amazing too…

Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor

These two are just the absolute sweetest gems, and I adore the way their story develops! From when they first meet in Lazlo’s dreams right through to the end, Laini keeps the romance blooming as well as filling their journey with adventure and drama. I simply adore them – there’s no better way to put it!

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I’m going to say it – this is my favourite f/f pairing of all time. They’re perfect. They’re flawed and their relationship has it’s rocky patches, but they’re just so brilliantly written and the development of their romance is gloriously slow and simmering and I can’t even properly describe how much it adds to the world of Priory. Read this book for the dragons, fall in love with Ead and Sabran.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

If you didn’t think that these two would make the list, do you even know me? First of all, I absolutely adore The Night Circus, and the relationship development between Celia and Marco is pretty central to the story. This is sort of an enemies-to-lovers story, though they don’t exactly know it at first. What I particularly love is that these characters fall in love with each other before they even really know who the other is. That might sound weird, but read the book and it’ll make sense,

Shades of Magic Series by VE Schwab

Please tell me I wasn’t the only person screaming at these two throughout the series?! Three books! It took them three books to finally admit to each other that they were perfect for each other, when I could tell after just a few chapters. I mean really… but seriously, Kell and Lila have the most wonderful, challenging relationship and I had so much fun reading it. Plus, that scene on the ship… that’s an excellent scene!!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Yes, it’s another choice from a Laini Taylor book. But she writes such amazing romance stories! There’s a whole host of beautiful romances in these books that I could choose from (Mik and Zuzanna, Ziri and Liraz) but Karou and Akiva are by far my favourites. There is a reason why I have one of the quotes from this book on my Instagram bio, and it is because this love story is perfection. True story.

Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

Who wouldn’t fall in love with a tall, dark and handsome young man who is wildly intelligent and challenges you in every way possible? And with a heroine as feisty and ahead of her time as Audrey Rose, this romance story is sure to make everyone fall in love with it. It certainly had that effect on me and several of my reading friends! I almost don’t want it to end!

We Hunt The Flame by Hafsah Faizal

So, they’re sort of not quite officially together. But they will be! Or they better be! I loved reading the interactions between these two. I also felt a lot like Altair was basically every reader just egging Zafira and Nasir on, thinking will they or won’t they? I’m so excited to see how their relationship develops in the second book, and I’m hoping for a particularly romantic ending!

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Strong, defiant heroine? Check. Snarky, sassy, most handsome mage? Check. New favourite couple award? It’s a definite check from me! I absolutely loved these two! Margaret wrote the perfect flirty banter and I completely fell in love with these characters and their story. I was so frustrated at times and wanted to bash their heads together a little bit, but all is well that ends well!

The Wrath and The Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

Is this the most perfect retelling of A Thousand and One Nights? In my opinion, yes. And so much of that is due to the development of the relationship between Shazi and Khalid. I love that Shazi goes into the relationship with the intention of murdering her soon to be husband, only to fall head over heels in love and end up saving him from his curse. After all, sometimes it’s the prince who needs saving!

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

I simply couldn’t do this post without mentioning my favourite love triangle. I realise that technically this one counts as two couples, but they’re just so perfect in my eyes. I love Tessa with Will, and I love her with Jem, and I love Will and Jem’s relationship too… there’s a reason why this is my favourite series out of all of the Shadowhunter books, and these three beauties and their romance is it.

So there you have it! My top fictional couples! Who do you think I missed off? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I haven’t read all the books on this list, but I agree on most of them. Lazlo and Sarai are so adorable my heart feels like bursting just thinking about them. Karou and Akiva broke my heart more than a hundred times, but their love story is everything. Audrey Rose and Thomas are goals and now I want my own Thomas. Will and Tessa and Jem are the ultimate love triangle of all time, there’s not better trio than them.

Now that I let that out of my chest, I would like to add to this list two more couples. Rhysand and Feyre from the ACOTAR series because they are so perfect together, and Daemon and Katy from the Lux series because they are also perfect and I ship them to the end of times!

Great post, it gave me all the feels and now I want to reread all these stories to feel all the love once again ๐Ÿ˜†

  2. Such an amazing list and nice to see my favorites too… Tessa, Jem and Will deserve to be mentioned together always ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ And Shazi and Khalid just were the highlight of that series… Elizabeth and Nathaniel are such fun, I wanna reread the book already ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ And wow do I wish we had gotten more scenes of Ead and Sabran together…..
    Lovely post !!!!
